Transloading is usually priced one of three ways: a flat rate per container, a rate per pallet handled, or a rate per hundredweight. Floor-loaded freight that must be palletized during de-vanning costs meaningfully more than freight that arrives already palletized, and drayage from the terminal is almost always quoted separately.
What is in the price
Typically the labor and equipment to strip the container, stage the freight, and load it to the outbound trailer. Sometimes shrink wrap and pallets; sometimes not.
What is usually extra
Drayage to and from the terminal, chassis charges, pallets and dunnage, storage if the freight dwells beyond a free period, sorting or segregation by SKU, and any special handling such as crane work or re-banding.
How to compare quotes
Insist on a per-container all-in figure for a described container, stated commodity, floor-loaded or palletized, number of pallets out, and expected dwell. Rates quoted on different bases are not comparable.
